Meeting Information

Meetings of the Kern County Historical Society are held monthly between September and May, with the exception of December. The meetings feature speakers on subjects pertaining to county history, historical sites, and Kern lore. Field trips are led by experts well acquainted with the sites. Meetings and field trips are open to members, guests and the general public.

February Meeting

Downtown Bakersfield, 1860 - 2010: A Rough Architectural History

Lynn Rudy will discuss buildings that have survived 150 years, and why (with a very brief mention of her research methods) at the February meeting. Lynn Rudy was born and reared in Bakersfield, went to East Bakersfield High School, then to Stanford for an A. B. in Art. She worked as biological illustrator, and retired in Sonoma County at her husband's family's small coastal farm. An unrepentant history buff, she has self-published three books based in Kern County and one on Sonoma County: A Brief History of the Hay Family of Bakersfield, California, Granddad: Hugh A. Blodget in Early Bakersfield, Old Bakersfield: Sites and Landmarks, 1875 - 1915 and The Old Salt Point Township, Sonoma County, California, 1841-1941. She volunteers in editorial and curatorial projects at Fort Ross State Park.
